    About Us:

The Singapore Society on Oncology (SSO), founded in 1981, is a professional medical organization for all Singapore healthcare professionals who treat and manage cancer patients. The aim of the SSO is to provide an active platform to promote the practice of oncology through education, research, collaborations and partnerships with allied local, regional and international organizations. The SSO is committed to providing CME and other opportunities for our cancer medical and nursing specialist community to further enhance their knowledge, skills and expertise in the rapidly changing practice of oncology. Where relevant or necessary, the SSO will also represent the views of the Society and its members in public forums and debate.

President's Statement:

Dear Members,

Welcome to the Singapore Society of Oncology (SSO) website. SSO is a leading professional organization representing medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists and healthcare professionals involved in cancer care in Singapore. The Society focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and aims to unite all members involved in the care of cancer patients in a national alliance. We strive to meet the needs of our fellow colleagues in oncology by offering high quality scientific educational and professional educational lectures and to enhance cross-disciplinary interaction through multi-disciplinary meetings. In addition, SSO also serves to improve interaction and collaboration between oncologists from the regions through the organization of regional forums such as the SSO-MOS (Malaysia Oncology Society) scientific retreat and the Singapore-Indonesia oncology forum.

2007-2008 will be exciting for SSO. In addition to the many CME programs, we will also be holding our first international lung oncology meeting here in Singapore, co-organizing an international urological fair and conducting our second oncology review course. With so many activities planned for the coming months, I strongly urge all members to visit our website regularly to keep themselves updated of the events. SSO is committed to serving your professional needs and we welcome all feedback. Do feel free to use this website to communicate your needs and views with us.

Finally, we thank you for the continual support that you have given to SSO and we hope to see you at the various events organized by SSO throughout the rest of the year.

Dr Lim Soon Thye
President, Singapore Society of Oncology 2006-2007
